Taras Grescoe in conversation with Jian Ghomeshi at TINARS
What are the epicurean and ethical dimensions of a perfect seafood dish? Bestselling author Taras Grescoe traveled the globe looking for an answer to this age-old riddle and chronicles his findings in Bottomfeeder: A Seafood Lover's Journey to the End of the Food Chain. Come hear Grescoe discuss the social, political and ecological costs of the global fishery industry with Jian Ghomeshi of CBC Radio's "Q". — A This Is Not A Reading Series event presented by Pages Books & Magazines, HarperCollins Canada, and EYE WEEKLY.

Bottomfeeder: A Seafood Lover's Journey to the End of the Food Chain is designed, menu-style, as an account of Taras Grescoe's epicurean and ethically driven quest for the perfect seafood dish. From a Red Lobster franchise in North Carolina to sampling an exotic curry dish in Kichi, India, Grescoe nets some shocking discoveries about fish, where they come from and the often slimy inner workings of the multi-billion dollar global fish industry. He tours the world's largest fish market with a marine biologist, takes celebrity chefs to task for putting threatened species on menus and partakes in meals guaranteed to shock — and even kill — the palate. More than a screed against the fishing industry, Bottomfeeder is a food lover's highly entertaining and provocative delight, written by an intrepid adventurer who loves to dish on what's delicious and ethically digestible.
"Bottomfeeder highlights the diversity, complexity and fragility of our oceans. It's an important reminder that we all have to take better care of our oceans if we want seafood in our future." — David Suzuki
"What Grescoe proposes is nothing less than a rethinking of our relationship to seafood, from the 'fork back to the hook,' and Bottomfeeder could do for sustainable seafood what Michael Pollan's The Omnivore's Dilemma has done for pasture-raised meat." — Quill & Quire
