Scotiabank Giller Prize Shortlist Announced

On October 7, the Scotiabank Giller Prize announced its 2008 shortlist. Margaret Atwood, Bob Rae and Colm Toibin were on this year’s jury. The five finalists were selected from 95 books that were submitted by publishers from across the country. The finalists will read at the International Festival of Authors on Saturday, November 1. Poll Results: Open Book Reader's Reach for Kathleen Winter's ANNABEL

November is a great month for book lovers. With the Writers Trust Award announced last night, the Giller prize winner to be revealed next Tuesday and the Governor General's award winners to be celebrated the following week, we only hope we'll have time to read all the books! Open Book readers have a head start: when the Giller shortlist was announced, almost 40 per cent reached first for Kathleen Winter's Annabel (House of Anansi Press). Good luck to all the nominees!
