From our friends at NOW HEAR THIS!:

NOW HEAR THIS!'s Students, Writers And Teachers (S.W.A.T.) Creative Residencies Project is looking for six more writers to join our ranks. S.W.A.T. is now in its fifth successful year in partnership with the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Writers work in TCDSB secondary school classrooms for ten weeks from February to May to run creative writing workshops for English students.

S.W.A.T. Writers-in-Residence work together with teachers to develop and facilitate writing workshops based on course curricula. For ten weeks, writers plan exercises with students to help work on basic sentence structure, grammar, developing persuasive arguments, creative expression and critical thinking.

In 2011, S.W.A.T. will run for from late-February to May. We ask that all writers who apply are professional authors as per the Canada Council's definition, have at least one (1) published work, have the ability to work with others and independently, have significant experience teaching and/or working with youth, have familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel as well as regular email and internet access. We also ask that these writers are committed to the goals of the NOW HEAR THIS! program including encouraging creativity, empowering students, stimulating students to think about things differently and making writing fun.

All applicants must fill out our application form (found at nowhearthis.ca/SWAT-2011-WIR-app.pdf) and submit it along with a cover letter, CV and list of three references by January 7, 2011.

All applications can be sent to Rachel Hopwood, Program Coordinator / Descant/NOW HEAR THIS! / 50 Baldwin St. / Toronto, ON / M5T 1L4
