Hone Your Skills: The Insider's Guide to Publishing with Cynthia Good and Jennifer Murray

Humber College

This fall, there are several workshops and courses for writers to hone their skills, whether the focus is on idea-generation, technique, or even business skills.

And if you're looking to get published, or even to self-publish, there's an intensive workshop coming up on October 25 and 26 called "The Insider's Guide to Publishing."

It is co-lead by former president and publisher of Penguin Canada, Cynthia Good, who is the current director of Humber's Creative Book Publishing Program, as well as Jennifer Murray of Porch Light Consulting, who has been Penguin's director of marketing and Kids Can Press' VP Marketing.

From them, you'll learn all about publishing in Canada today, including the implications of rapidly developing technologies and the basics of the various financial arrangements and publishing agreements that you might face. You will also hear about the pros and cons of self-publishing, both print and digitally, and how it compares to traditional publishers.

You will also learn how to prepare effective query letters, book proposals, and author profiles, as well as how to increase your sales, market your book, and use social media tools.

Interested? Read more about it in our event listings or check out the website.
