Launch for Practical Dreamers: Conversations with Movie Artists at TINARS
What if there were movies made the same way as suits, custom fitted, each one tailored for one person? Some of the brightest stars from Toronto's fringe film and video scene — including Midi Onodera, Jubal Brown, Su Rynard and Richard Fung — will show dazzling and mysterious short films, and then discuss the genesis of their projects with Mike Hoolboom, editor of the collection, Practical Dreamers: Conversations with Movie Artists (Coach House Books). A This Is Not A Reading Series event presented by Pages Books & Magazines, Coach House Books, Images Festival and EYE WEEKLY. At the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom, 1214 Queen Street West, Toronto. Mike Hoolboom is a film and video artist. He is the author of two books: Plague Years and Inside the Pleasure Dome: Fringe Film in Canada. He is a founding member of the Pleasure Dome screening collective and has worked as the artistic director of the Images Festival and as the experimental film coordinator for the Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Centre. The winner of more than thirty international prizes, he has exhibited his work at the Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Georges Pompidou and major world festivals.
