Five Roasts, Five Boasts & Five Toasts about Marc Glassman at TINARS
This Is Not A Reading Series turns five! It is the thirtieth year of Pages Books & Magazines! What better way to celebrate these twin milestones than with a tribute to the driving force behind both indie institutions: Marc Glassman? A posse of familiar faces from Toronto's literary, film, and art scenes will raise their glasses to the literary and film curator, editor, arts journalist, and proprietor of Pages Books. Billy Bryans will perform a live DJ set. -- A This Is Not A Reading Series event presented by Pages Books & Magazines and EYE WEEKLY.
Gladstone Hotel Ballroom, 1214 Queen St West, Toronto
Tuesday, September 2 at 8:00 p.m. (doors 7:30 p.m.) free.
BILLY BRYANS was inducted into the Indies Hall of Fame last year with his groundbreaking band, The Parachute Club. His rich understanding of Cuban, Latin, and World beats has made Bryans one of Toronto's most popular DJs. For more information, visit: www.misterbryans.com.
MARC GLASSMAN has been nominated by the Toronto Arts Council for the 2008 William Kilbourn Award for the Celebration of Toronto's Cultural Life – "a $5,000 cash prize presented to an individual performer, teacher, administrator or creator in any arts discipline, including architecture and design, whose work is a celebration of life through the arts in Toronto". The TAC provides a tidy summary of this nominee's many activities: "Marc Glassman is a community builder, facilitator and mentor with a flare for pushing artists and audiences alike to define and redefine the possibilities of artistic expression. In addition to co-founding the Moving Pictures and Images festivals, his creative commitments range from work as an arts journalist and film curator to proprietor of Pages, Toronto's famously extensive indie bookshop. He creates opportunities for other artists to share and grow their work such as the multi-disciplinary literary programme, This is Not a Reading Series. "
