This summer, Toronto's most idiosyncratic secondhand bookshop, The Monkey's Paw, hosts an unprecedented site-specific group art show: The Monkey's Paw Section Label Project. At the invitation of co-curators Stephen Fowler and Kerri Reid, 13 local artists will respond visually to the cultural content of an entire bookstore by creating (very small) section labels for all 52 subject categories throughout the shop.

The Masala! Mehndi! Masti! DesiLit Writers’ Stage focuses on the work of writers (fiction, poetry, non-fiction), storytellers and spoken word artists.

The TAXI Project is a play about freedom of expression, home and exile. It is an initiative of PEN Canada and the Art for Real Change Collective. The TAXI Project is an original play that explores issues of freedom of expression and the complex realities of living in exile.
Written by four members of PEN Canada's Writers in Exile Program (Emma Beltran, Martha Kuwee Kumsa, Sheng Xue, and Goran Simic) the play follows four characters forced to leave their home countries and the struggle to create a new life in Canada.
Following the play will be a reading and discussion by members of the Writers in Exile Program.
Daytime performances will be accompanied by an interactive workshop and will be attended predominantly by youth.

The TAXI Project is a play about freedom of expression, home and exile. It is an initiative of PEN Canada and the Art for Real Change Collective. The TAXI Project is an original play that explores issues of freedom of expression and the complex realities of living in exile.
Written by four members of PEN Canada's Writers in Exile Program (Emma Beltran, Martha Kuwee Kumsa, Sheng Xue, and Goran Simic) the play follows four characters forced to leave their home countries and the struggle to create a new life in Canada.
Following the play will be a reading and discussion by members of the Writers in Exile Program.
Daytime performances will be accompanied by an interactive workshop and will be attended predominantly by youth.

This summer, Toronto's most idiosyncratic secondhand bookshop, The Monkey's Paw, hosts an unprecedented site-specific group art show: The Monkey's Paw Section Label Project. At the invitation of co-curators Stephen Fowler and Kerri Reid, 13 local artists will respond visually to the cultural content of an entire bookstore by creating (very small) section labels for all 52 subject categories throughout the shop.

The 3-Day Novel Contest is a literary institution and a rite-of-passage for writers that has happened every Labour Day Weekend since 1977. It was born in Vancouver, but now hundreds of writers from around the globe compete for the top prize of publication.
Help celebrate the launch of the latest 3-Day Novel Contest winner and help cheer on potential entrants to the upcoming marathon. John Kupferschmidt will read from In the Garden of Men, his winning entry to the 30th Annual International 3-Day Novel Contest, and he and the 3-Day team will answer questions on how to survive and thrive during this notorious literary challenge.

The Royal Alexandra Portfolio by Edward Burtynsky was commissioned by David Mirvish to mark the theatre’s 100th anniversary in 2007. The photographs are included in The Royal Alexandra Theatre: A Celebration of 100 Years by Robert Brockhouse (McArthur & Company), and will be editioned strictly limited to photographs and portfolios ordered before May 31, 2008. The Porcupine's Quill is celebrating thirty-five years at 68 Main Street in Erin Village on Saturday, August 16th and Sunday, August 17th. Stop by the c. 1890 building for a self-guided tour and for demonstrations of book printing and binding equipment, both antiquated and modern. Guided tours of the village will leave from 68 Main Street at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
