The Royal Alexandra Portfolio by Edward Burtynsky was commissioned by David Mirvish to mark the theatre’s 100th anniversary in 2007. The photographs are included in The Royal Alexandra Theatre: A Celebration of 100 Years by Robert Brockhouse (McArthur & Company), and will be editioned strictly limited to photographs and portfolios ordered before May 31, 2008. Curated by Eleanor Johnston.

Karen Patkau, author and illustrator of Creatures Yesterday and Today (Tundra Books, 2008) and Creatures Great and Small (Tundra Books, 2006), will have her illustrations from the two books on exhibit at the Yorkville branch of the Toronto Public Library, 22 Yorkville Avenue, for the month of June.

Bloody Words VIII, Canada’s largest gathering of mystery readers and writers, is on June 6 to 8 at the Eaton Centre Downtown Marriott Hotel.

Guests of Honour at the event are Rosemary Aubert and Carolyn Hart. The MC is Anthony Bidulka.

The winner of the Hammett Award will be announced at the Bloody Words Banquet.

Sky Gilbert, Tara-Michelle Ziniuk, and Anna Camilleri headline the Toronto Small Press Book Fair

The Toronto Small Press Book Fair celebrates its 21st birthday at the Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre on Saturday, June 7. From noon to 5:00 p.m. publishers, writers and fans and friends of Canada's small presses will gather at the JCC to support a long-standing tradition on the Canadian literary scene.

Small presses of every size, from the micro to the not-so-tiny will have for sale all kinds of books, chapbooks and zines that offer a different perspective and a chance for readers to step outside the mainstream.

George A. Walker (Images from the Neocerebellum) will be at The Porcupine's Quill on Saturday, June 7 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. to demonstrate the art of wood engraving. Head to The Porcupine's Quill in Erin, Ontario for an open studio, demonstration and artist print sales.

Elyse Friedman (Long Story Short, Anansi) and Pasha Malla (The Withdrawal Method, Anansi) will read from their fiction and discuss their craft at the Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street, On Saturday, June 7 at 2:00 p.m. The event is moderated by Caroline Adderson (Pleased to Meet You, Thomas Allen). It is part of the Luminato Short Story Festival.
