Rick Blechta is a crime novelist and musician living in Toronto and has twin passions in life: crime writing and music. He's had five novels published and the sixth, A Case of You, has just been released. His 2005 novel, Cemetery of the Nameless was a finalist for an Arthur Ellis Award for Best Crime Novel. John McFetridge will be reading from his new mystery, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere (ECW Press), on April 16 at 6:30 at Just Us Cafe in the Beaches (2010 Queen Street East).
John McFetridge, author of Dirty Sweet and Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, became fascinated with crime when attending a murder trial at age twelve with his police officer brother. McFetridge has co-written a short story collection, Below the Line. He lives in Toronto with his family, and writes regular updates on his blog.

To celebrate the release of his widely anticipated first novel, A Week Of This: A Novel in Seven Days (ECW Press, 2008), Quill & Quire review editor Nathan Whitlock will deliver a comic mock lecture titled "Seven Steps To A Seven Day Novel". Also, musician Alex Lukashevsky — whom Kevin Drew of Broken Social Scene has called "one of the best songwriters Canada's ever been blessed with" — will perform songs inspired by Whitlock's tale about the lives of an extended family over seven increasingly desperate days. The National Poetry Month evening at the Columbus Centre, Toronto, will take place Thursday, April 17, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m., in the Rotunda on the Main floor. Admission is free. The evening is hosted by Centro Scuola/Columbus Centre and the Dante Society of Toronto. The readers include Pier Giorgio Di Cicco, Gianna Patriarca, Joseph Maviglia, and Bruna Di Giuseppe-Bertoni. All four of these Italian Canadian poets have earned praise for their published works. As creative artists, they each describe their own experience of immigration, and their poems give voice to the thousands of other new arrivals in Canada.

Four contributors to Coach House Books' GreenTOpia: Towards a Sustainable Toronto look at water in the city -- its ravine system, changing water bodies and creeks -- and discuss ideas for improving Toronto's water future.

Johanna Skibsrud’s poetry has appeared in various journals, including The Antigonish Review, Prism International, Lichen and Exile. Originally from Meadowville, Nova Scotia, she currently lives in Toronto.
Karen Houle is an associate professor in Philosophy at the University of Guelph. Houle’s first collection of poetry, Ballast, was nominated for the Gerald Lampert Award in 2001. Her essay "Double Arc" was published in Dropped Threads 2.
