Rozena Maart’s new novel, The Writing Circle, tells the story of five women who gather every Friday night to discuss their writing lives. Nadine McInnis is the author of six other books, including Quicksilver (short stories), Hand to Hand (poetry), and Poetics of Desire: Essays on Dorothy Livesay. Her work has appeared in a variety of journals, including The Malahat Review, The New Quarterly, Event, and Room of One’s Own. She lives in Ottawa where she teaches in the Professional Writing Program at Algonquin College.

On December 6 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., The Dundurn Group (in partnership with the Ontario Historical Society) is having a book reading event. Great Canadian Roadtrips with Roy Macgregor (The Canadians), Ray Robertson (What Happened Later) and 2007 Giller nominee Michael Winter (The Architects Are Here) at St Alban's Chapel, Royal St. George's College (free parking on site).

Gil Adamson (The Outlander), Jessica Westhead (Pulpy and Midge), and Andreas Gripp (Angel Clare) read at the IV Lounge reading series on December 14 at 8:00 p.m.
Gil Adamson cites as her influences Michael Ondaatje, Raymond Carver, Richard Ford, and Mark Richard. Her acclaimed short fiction has been widely published in magazines and literary journals, and her collection of stories received rave reviews. The Outlander, ten years in the writing, is Gil Adamson's first novel. Adamson lives in Toronto, Canada.

Mayworks Festival of Working People is holding a poetry marathon fundraiser on January 1, 2008 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity at 10 Trinity Square in Toronto. More than 60 poets will read over five hours. Admission is $5 to $15, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Children are welcome, the event is wheelchair accessible, and food is available for sale.
