On Wednesday, April 9, one of Toronto’s most consistently interesting literary presses unloads its latest chamber of armor-piercing books upon the reading public and this season, most of them have been manufactured right here in Toronto. The Coach House Spring Launch features new novels from acclaimed Toronto author Maggie Helwig (recently spotlighted in Toronto Life) and celebrated Toronto-based playwright Claudia Dey, and both books feature Ontario’s capital city as their settings, even as a character in itself (though a quite different character in each novel). The night also includes the launch of books by Toronto artist, writer and columnist RM Vaughan, with his scandalous poetic memoir; new Toronto resident Jordan Scott, with his poetics of stuttering; and visiting Vancouver poet Jen Currin with her collection of surrealist urban fairy tales. Together they will perform short readings and send off their brand-new titles at a very special event at Stones Place (1255 Queen Street West) on Wednesday, April 9 at 7: 30 p.m.
