If Jane Austen had never written, this would be my all-time favorite book. A collection of letters written by Peterborough, Ontario housewife Ruby Cress in the 1950s to her sister, author (and Canadian treasure) Edna Staebler. Ruby's world is small and her spelling is poor but her accounts of making over second hand clothes or sashaying off to Bingo and her love of the details of life with her two children and insurance salesman husband fill the pages with warmth and humour. A gem of Canadian lit if you ask me! - AH
